This qualitative study examines drug misuse in a small local British prison through the eyes of inmates and staff. The first part gives an in‐depth understanding of the complex issues surrounding drug misuse and drug problems. The second part examines staff priorities in terms of control, health and rehabilitation and reports on possible solutions from the viewpoints of staff themselves. The implications of recent central policy are then examined in the light of the views of officers and inmates.
