A patient with severe glutethimide poisoning was treated concurrently by forced diuresis, peritoneal dialysis, and hemodialysis, and recovered without sequellae. Hemodialysis removed 1,240 mg and reduced the level of this drug from 4.2 to 0.35 mg per 100 cc. The amounts removed by peritoneal dialysis and diuresis with mannitol were 580 and 506 mg, respectively, but the hourly removal rate was much less with these procedures. The combined use of the three techniques is recommended in cases of severe intoxication.
