Cerebral angiography was introduced by Moniz in 1927. Although increased experience has widened the indications for the method, its general application has been limited because of the difficulty of the injection technique and because of some undesirable results obtained with the use of the-contrast media hitherto available. The operative exposure of the carotid artery limited the application of the method, but this objection has been overcome by the percutaneous technique adopted by Loman and Myerson (1936), which paved the way for a wider use of the procedure (Engeset, 1944; Lindgren, 1947; etc.).
