An in situ photothermal synthesis is developed to prepare α/γ-Fe 2 O 3 -derived Fe 5 C 2 catalyst with a tunable exposed crystal facet. The catalyst achieves a selectivity for C 2= –C 4= as high as 71.9% with the olefin/paraffin ratio for C 2 –C 4 up to 16.7.
