A new simplified model for the calculation of the atomic structure of screw dislocations in b.c.c. metals is suggested. The results for the two different equilibrium configurations are discussed. They are in good agreement with those obtained by lattice relaxation techniques. In contrast to the high energy metastable configuration, the low energy configuration was found to be asymmetric with respect to the {112} planes; therefore, two energetically degenerated equilibrium configurations are possible.
