The hyperbranched polymer-titania hybrid nanomaterial was synthesized by self-condensing vinyl polymerization (SCVP) of 2-(2-bromopropionyloxy)ethyl acrylate (BPEA) via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) from TiO2 surface. First, the ATRP initiators were immobilized onto the TiO2 surface by the reaction between 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane-modified TiO2 and 2-bromopropionyl bromide. Then the hyperbranched polymer was grafting from the surface of TiO2 via SCVP by using the ATRP initiators immobilized onto the TiO2. The resulting hybrid nanomaterial was characterized by means of XPS, FT-IR, 1H NMR, GPC, and TGA. The results showed that the hyperbranched poly(2-(2-bromopropionyloxy)ethyl acrylate) (HPBPEA) chains were successfully grafted from the TiO2 surface.
