Glass ceramics containing lead-zirconate-titanate (PZT) have been synthesized by a sol-gel route. After ion exchange and reduction composites containing PZT and nanoparticles of silver with diameters in the range 3.6–13.7 nm have been made. Samples prepared by hot compaction of these powders have dielectric constant values in the range 350–1050 with dissipation factor ∼0.05 at a frequency of 1 kHz at 300 K. Bergman’s model of inhomogeneous dielectric cannot explain these results. An interrupted metal strand model has been explored for these materials.
