Blood pressure variability in maintenance hemodialysis patients is influenced by multiple factors and serves as an independent predictor of cardiovascular events and mortality.
Why the study?
Dialysis patients experience complex blood pressure variability due to acute hemodynamic changes, and summarizing its influencing factors can inform hypertension management.
This review summarizes the pathogenesis, influencing factors, and prognostic value of blood pressure variability in maintenance hemodialysis patients to provide reference for hypertension management.
Does not support practice changes in hemodialysis hypertension management; leaves open BP variability's prognostic utility pending prospective trials.
The fluctuation of Blood pressure within a certain period of time is called Blood pressure variability (BPV). Recent studies have confirmed its value in predicting cardiovascular events and death. However, large changes in hemodynamics and internal environment in dialysis patients due to dialysis treatment in a short period of time, often face more complex blood pressure variability. At present, there are a variety of research on BPV, and the pathogenesis and influencing factors of BPV are numerous. In this paper, the variability of blood pressure in maintenance hemodialysis patients and its influencing factors were reviewed to provide reference for the management of hypertension in dialysis patients.

Haifan Xu (2024) conducted a review in End-stage renal disease on maintenance hemodialysis. Blood pressure variability was evaluated. Blood pressure variability in maintenance hemodialysis patients is influenced by multiple factors and serves as an independent predictor of cardiovascular events and mortality.
