Wound Management in Older People

Wound management has witnessed revolutionary changes over the past few years. Research has revealed an enormous amount of information on the science of tissue repair and the range of modern moist wound pharmaceuticals has grown exponentially. Despite these improvements, patients still languish for months and even years with unhealing wounds due to inferior wound management. The majority of these patients are in the older population and have requirements for special consideration of their wound healing capacity. In reviewing wound management in older people, it is hoped that health professionals will be able to redouble their efforts to achieve optimum healing rates.
