Radicals formed by regioselective hydrogen atom transfer from the β- and γ-positions of N-acetylvaline (14) and the N-methyl substituent in N-acetylsarcosine (15) have been identified by EPR spectroscopy. The detection of these species provides direct evidence of polar effects in radical reactions of amino acid derivatives.
