A linear Stark and pseudo‐Stark effect is observed at the zero‐phonon absorption lines 5456 Å in NaF and 4874 Å in LiF at 4.2 °K. From the combination of uniaxial stress and electric field results the corresponding colour centre is found to belong to the C3v point symmetry group. In accordance with the model for the ionized R centre (F centre) the lines are due to transitions between a single ground state and a degenerate excited state. For the analysis of the experimental results the method of moments is used and a comparison with the Stark and pseudo‐Stark effect of the R centre is presented.
