Traps baited with the sex lure secreted by the nonflying gypsy moth (Porthetria dispar (L.)) female attract and ensnare the flying male of the species. With these traps large areas may be scouted for the presence of the moth. Control measures are applied to fringe areas of the infestations where the moth is found to prevent further spread of the insect. Trap design, trap color, bait dispensers, duration of bait effectiveness, bait strength requirements, trap height, trap placement, collection of the sex lure, and other investigations related to the gypsy math trapping program are discussed.
