The Raman spectrum of polyethylene sulfide has been obtained. The spectrum is utilized to differentiate between alternative structures for the polymer. The observed spectrum is satisfactorily interpreted with the (CH2CH2SCH2CH2S) repeat unit having a TGG, TG'G' conformation. Some band assignments are suggested for both the infrared and Raman spectra.
