The sensitization of the anodic current at the ZnO single crystal/electrolyte interface by optically excited xanthene dyes was studied by means of noise and pulsed light measurements. A discussion is given of the possible reaction mechanisms involved in the anodic oxidation of the sensitizing dye molecules. From the experiments, quantitative conclusions are drawn concerning the time constants associated with the different reaction steps.
