Pulsed field threshold ionization leads to a vibrationally resolved spectrum of the X̃ 2E1g state of the benzene cation. It is further used to investigate the state-selective dissociation of the benzene–Ar+ complex. Exclusive detection of threshold ions with a resolution of <9 cm−1 is achieved by kinetic energy analysis in a reflectron mass spectrometer.
