Lattice-parameter variations as a function of temperature for silver–palladium alloys of five different compositions were investigated using a high-temperature 19-cm Unicam X-ray camera. Alloys containing 63 wt. % Ag and 80 wt. % Ag show a straight-line relationship between lattice parameter and temperature.Measurements made at room temperature on specimens quenched from different temperatures, after maintaining them for different periods of time at each particular temperature, indicate no changes in the lattice-parameter values. It is suggested that the observed deviations from a straight-line relationship in the above three alloys reflect temperature-induced changes in electronic structure.
