Previous papers [e.g., Kanis and de Boer, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 94, 3199–3206 (1993); 96, 2156–2165 (1994)] have described and applied an approximation method, called the quasilinear method, to solve nonlinear locally active cochlea models in the frequency domain. This method consists of treating higher-order distortion components as perturbations. This letter compares results obtained with the quasilinear method with results computed in the time domain. The time-domain method described by Diependaal et al. [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 82, 1655–1666 (1987)] was used. The comparison for single-tone as well as for two-tone stimulation was performed. In most cases the match between the two solutions is excellent.
