As with magnetostatic surface waves, the presence of a conducting ground plane in the proximity of an epitaxial magnetic layer perturbs the propagation characteristics of magnetostatic volume waves. A dielectric layered structure consisting of an epitaxial YIG film separated from a ground plane by means of a dielectric layer is considered. A characteristic dispersion equation is derived for forward propagating magnetostatic volume waves within this layered structure. Although forward volume waves are reciprocal it is shown that regions of non-dispersive propagation exist. The theoretical predictions are supported by experimental results.
