A new precursor powder process for the fabrication of silver sheathed Bi(Pb)-2223 tapes by an oxide-powder-in-tube method is reported. The precursor powder is made from a mixture of and . Fully processed tapes with the overall composition showed an homogeneous 2223 microstructure containing only small amounts of second phases. A critical current density of (77 K, 0 T) was obtained for a thick single-filament tape after a total reaction time of 160 h with two intermediate pressings.
