A case of adenomatous goiter with hyperthyroidism, complicating thyroid carcinoma, is reported together with appropriate discussion. The patient was a 51-year-old woman, complaining of the recent expansion of a tumor of the cervical area which had first appeared one year before. On preoperative examination hyperthyroidism was evident, and hot nodules were noted in the upper sides of both thyroid lobes on thyroid scintigram using 123-1. Ultrasonic examination disclosed multiple cysts of the entire thyroid gland. Papillary carcinoma (about 1cm) was noted in a part of the resected right lobe, and accordingly the diagnosis of adenomatous goiter withhyperthyroidism complicating thyroid carcinoma was made.
