Conventional axial tomographic procedures produce blurred images of cross-sections (Andrews, 1936; Valle-bona, 1955). Consequently, it is worth considering ways improving these images so that they are useful in a wider range of clinical applications. We have previously (Bates and Peters, 1971) suggested means of processing radio-graphic information both optically and digitally to obtain improved tomograms, and here we present some preliminary results of the digital processing method. In this paper we outline a method for reconstructing an image of a two-dimensional cross-section from a series of X-ray pictures taken at a number of projections about the object.
