F-centre profiles created in LiF with 56 MeV α-particles and 28 MeV deuterons are obtained at room temperature by an optical method using a microspectrophotometer. This profiles are analogous to Bragg's curves and are in good agreement with the calculated electronic stopping power but a departure from linearity above 1014 MeV cm−3 is observed. The energies per observed F-centre as a function of incident ion energy vary between 350 and 1550 eV for α-particles and 530 and 1750 eV for deuterons. The results for samples irradiated in the (100) and (110) directions are similar.
