The description of channel coupling in terms of configuration mixing is viewed as a two-step MQDT treatment which leads naturally to the QDT parameters discussed in recent papers for the two-channel case. Direct and reactive effects of channel coupling are separated and the implications of the earlier resonance treatment are reviewed.
