We present time-integrated and time-resolved photoluminescence spectra of excitons and electron-hole droplets in externally stressed diamond. A suppression of droplet luminescence and an enhancement of exciton luminescence are clearly observed due to the application of the strain field, reducing the degeneracy of the conduction bands. We observe that the application of a 1.10.3em0exGPa stress to the crystal results in a decrease of the critical temperature by approximately 100.3em0exK. Based on these results, we discuss the possibility to manipulate the quantum degenerate phases of an electron-hole ensemble at high density and low temperature.
