Summary The time-delay in the decay of Coulomb excited nuclei can be used to improve background conditions so that weaker excitations can be detected. As an example the excitation of the 40 second isomeric activity in silver has been investigated. The measured yield curve shows that the excitation takes place mainly via a higher-lying rotational state. A brief discussion of the rotational spectrum and the decay scheme is given.
