During the last two or three years many people have studied the importance of electronic correlations for the scattering of X-rays and fast electrons by atoms. The present authors have calculated the increments to the mean values of the operators which appear in the scattering phenomena using the atomic Bethe Goldstone equations which give the total correlation energies range from 98.5 to 100.3% of the empirical correlation energy. The results are compared with those obtained by several authors. It is concluded that it is necessary to take account of the electron correlations for comparison between theory and experiment.
