Recently developed techniques of Wiggins [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 48, 262 (1988)] are used to study the onset of chaotic oscillations and explosive growth of a spherical bubble in an otherwise quiescent, incompressible fluid. It is shown that bubbles forced with a quasiperiodic background pressure can respond chaotically and grow explosively at lower amplitudes of the primary component of the forcing than bubbles forced with a single frequency. The means of extension of these results to an arbitrary, but finite, number of forcing frequencies is presented.
