Abstract 2‐Hydroxy‐6‐bromopyridine is formed by the action of concentrated aqueous solutions of sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid or formic acid on 2,6‐dibromopyridine at 160°. The use of phosphoric acid affords a method for the preparation of 2‐hydroxy‐6‐bromopyridine from 2,6‐dibromopyridine.
