A specific anti—estradiol serum (A/S) was utilized to investigate the role of endogenous estrogen in ovarian responses to exogenous gonadotropins. The antiserum inhibited the expected uterine wt increment following treatment with hCG, FSH, or hCG and FSH in combination. In addition, ovarian weight increase and follicular development were significantly inhibited by the anti—estradiol serum. We conclude that endogenous estrogen has a role in mediating the stimulatory effects of hCG and FSH on the ovary. (Endocrinology91: 1518, 1972)
