Renal sympathetic denervation in a 14-year-old with congenital long QT syndrome eliminated syncope and ventricular arrhythmias and shortened the QT interval from 600 ms to 500 ms over 5 months.
Why the study?
Does renal sympathetic denervation prevent syncope and ventricular arrhythmias in a patient with congenital long QT syndrome?
Case Report (n=1)
Does renal sympathetic denervation prevent syncope and ventricular arrhythmias in a patient with congenital long QT syndrome?
Renal sympathetic denervation may be a feasible and effective novel treatment for congenital long QT syndrome to shorten the QT interval and prevent ventricular arrhythmias.

Hypothesis-generating for renal sympathetic denervation in congenital long QT syndrome; prospective trials needed before clinical adoption.
In this case, we treated a 14-year-old congenital long QT syndrome patient with renal sympathetic denervation for the first time. In four positive sites, renal nerve stimulation-induced frequent multiform premature ventricular beats (PVCs) the same morphologies as preoperation (Figure, denoted by asterisks), implying renal nerves on these specific sites exactly participated in the pathogenesis of ventricular arrhythmias. After ablation, no PVCs could be induced anymore. The patient was free of syncope during the follow-up of 5 months up to now, with the QT interval got significantly shortened from 600 ms before ablation to 500 ms post-ablation, and no ventricular arrhythmia was observed in two consecutive Holter monitor. Xiao Mingyang (2019) conducted a case report in congenital long QT syndrome (n=1). renal sympathetic denervation was evaluated on QT interval, syncope, and ventricular arrhythmias. Renal sympathetic denervation in a 14-year-old with congenital long QT syndrome eliminated syncope and ventricular arrhythmias and shortened the QT interval from 600 ms to 500 ms over 5 months.
