The effect of the titanium interlayer in perpendicular double-layer disks was studied and a typical columnar structure and hexagonal diffraction pattern and a good crystal orientation were found. Coercivity in thinner cobalt-chromium with titanium is larger than that of without titanium. Then the effects of the titanium interlayer on recording characteristics at different spacings between the head and disk were also studied. In large spacing, titanium layer increases head output, however, at small spacing, the titanium layer has no such effect. This difference was explained by an operating model. The influence the titanium on D50 were analyzed by using FEM.
