The increasing use of the free thyroxine index as an aid in the diagnosis of thyroid disease necessitates a simple, rapid, reliable, and readily automated method for the determination of T3 uptake. A new surface adsorbent technic has been compared with the widely used resin sponge T3 uptake method. The new technic possesses the desired attributes, correlates very highly with the resin sponge method (r = 0.93), and with the modification employed, the results of the adsorbent method are virtually identical to those obtained by the resin sponge method.
