A model of three coupled states, based on the (pseudo) crossing of molecular potential curves, has been applied to the process of chemi-ionization (ion-pair formation) for oxygen atoms colliding with Na, K, Rb, or Cs. The semiclassical impact parameter method has been employed in the calculation of total and differential cross sections for oxygen kinetic energies of from 300 eV to 10 keV. It is shown that rotational coupling of the magnetic substates is of considerable importance.
