Clinically, the production and release of excessive amounts of hormone by these tumors adds the effects of metabolic derangements to the neoplastic illness. Hormonal causes of rapid clinical deterioration in a cancer patient must be considered before concluding that symptoms are due to metastatic spread of tumor. Clinical manifestations of the ectopic hormone syndromes vary with the amount of hormone produced and with the course of the concomitant neoplastic disease. Most patients with oat-cell bronchogenic carcinoma whose...References1. KNOWLESSMITH JL: Extrapulmonary manifestations of bronchogenic carcinoma. New Eng J Med 262:505-510, 1960.
