The dizinc organometallic complex LZn2Ph2, where L2- is a binucleating bis(amidoamine) ligand, reacts with N,N-dimethylacetamide to form the α-zincated derivative LZn2[CH2C(O)NMe2]2 in moderate yield. In a similar fashion, LZn2Ph2 reacts with trimethylphosphine oxide to form LZn2[CH2P(O)Me2]2 in good yield. These molecules are the first structurally characterized examples of α-zincated (Reformatsky) amides and phosphine oxides.
