At present, it is desirable to find a preferable medium for mid-infrared transparency. In this paper, a kind of birefringence holey fibre (HF) is proposed. Its background is the gallium lanthanum chalcogenide glass (GLS) which remains highly transparent from 0.5 to 10 µm, has high refractive index n and high nonlinear refractive index n 2 . In the HF, high birefringence, high nonlinear coefficient and low confinement loss are simultaneously achieved in the wavelength region from visible light to mid-infrared. Meanwhile the waveguide dispersion can be adjusted flexibly. The birefringence comes up to 0.088, and at 1.55 µm the nonlinear coefficient runs up to 3.80 m − 1 W − 1 .
