Wire to wire: The hybrid Sup351-61-E2GFP-MPH, which consists of the pH-sensitive green fluorescent protein E2GFP, the enzyme methyl parathion hydrolase (MPH), and the yeast prion protein Sup351-61 was obtained by gene fusion. A self-assembled nanowire was formed through aggregation of the Sup351-61 subunit (see picture). The wire acts as a biosensor that can detect methyl parathion with a sensitivity 10 000 times greater than free E2GFP-MPH.
