Abstract syn and anti forms of α‐amino‐acetophenone oximes R2NCH2(C6H5)CN‐X undergo fragmentation to a carbimonium salt (R2NCH2)⊕ X⊖ and benzonitrile upon conversion into esters (e. g. tosylate, benzoate, p‐nitro benzoate) or ethers (e. g. 2,4‐dinitrophenyl or picryl ether).
