A patient developed acute tubular necrosis following treatment with cephalothin sodium and gentamicin sulfate. Postmortem examination confirmed the clinical impression of acute tubular necrosis. No other cause for the renal failure was evident either clinically or at postmortem examination. We could find few other instances in relevant literature in which these two antibiotics either alone or in combination have been implicated in drug-induced renal failure.
