The first platinum(II) halogenide compounds containing the (σ 3 - N, C, N )isophtalaldimine ligand, 2a and 2b, have been prepared via an oxidative addition of the bromoisophthalaldimine ligands 1 a and 1 b to a Pt(0) precursor. Depending on the imine substituents, the reaction of these compounds with LiC≡CSiMe 3 in THF results in a monomeric trans -diorganoplatinum(II) compound ( 3 ) or a dimeric cis -diorganoplatinum(II) compound ( 4 ). Both 3 and 4 have been characterized by means of an X-ray crystal structure determination.
