Sound velocity has been measured as a function of temperature for three orientations in both shorted and insulated potassium ferrocyanide crystals. The results are qualitatively interpreted by means of ionic binding in the material and a change in ionic-bond strength by hydrogen-bond formation at the ferroelectric transition temperature. Anomalies in the shorted crystals are correlated with phenomenological thermodynamic theory.
