The Born-Ochkur approximation is used to evaluate the ratio of P'/P of the transverse polarizations P and P' of electrons before and after the excitation of the 6 3 P 1 and 6 1 P 1 states of mercury for scattering in the forward direction. Satisfactory accordance is obtained with the experimental data obtained by Hanne and Kessler (see ibid., vol.9, p.791 (1976)).
