Electron and X-ray diffuse scattering study on Ti1+xS2 (0.17 < x < 0.35) reveale the occurrence of a short-range ordering of titanium atoms in partly filled metal layers. The composition dependence of the diffuse scattering intensity is reported. Diffuse intensity maxima and superlattice spots reflect incommensurate and commensurate concentration modulations. These first observations suggest a possible relationship with Fermi surface effects.
