From native and introduced tree species growing in the North Island of New Zealand, a number of potential wood‐staining fungi were isolated and studied. One wood‐staining Pyrenomycete, three wood‐staining Coelomycetes, and twelve wood‐staining Hyphomycetes were investigated, including Hyalopesotum pini sp. nov. and Mammariopsis gen. nov. (type species Mammariopsis variospora sp. nov.).
