Artificial radioactive sources suitable for interstitial therapy are discussed. Tantalum wire sheathed in platinum has been used as an alternative to radium needles, its flexibility being an advantage in some sites in the body. The grains have characteristics similar to those of radon seeds, but the method of introduction is more satisfactory and the handling procedure simple.
