The Compton profile of nitrogen was measured and compared with theoretical profiles calculated from Slater and Hartree—Fock free atom wave-functions and from LCAO-molecular orbital wave-functions due to Ransil. The experimental results are significantly different from the profiles based on the free atom wave-functions and give good agreement with the profiles obtained from the molecular orbital wave-functions.
