The photoluminescent properties of specially undoped γ-La2S3 single crystals are investigated. An interpretation of the complicated behaviour of the emission band under various excitation conditions is given, based on the concept of donor—acceptor pairs. A scheme of the deep levels and the electron transitions in γ-La2S3 single crystals is presented.
