It has been found that under certain conditions of heating, filaments of nylong melt from the center outwards. It has been established that this is associated with the presence of moisture in the filaments and that moisture lowers the melting point of the material. Well‐defined core effects and internal cavitation resulting in delustering of the filament may occur under conditions of shock heating. The melting point of nylon is raised by the presence of stress.
