This paper summarizes the first results of an investigation on the influence of amphiphilic substances on the mutual solubilities of two partially miscible liquids. In the first part, the ternary system C6H6–H2O – Alcohol are studied and in the second part, the quarternary systems C6H6 – H2O – Alcohol – NaDS. The effectivity of different alcohols is discussed as well as the influence of the surfactant on the shape of the phase diagram. The microscopic structure of the solutions was investigated by means of light scattering, small angle X‐ray scattering, and conductivity measurements. The structure of the micelles in different regions of the phase diagram is discussed. The results indicate the existence of a critical composition for the formation of inverse micelles in the C6H6 rich region.
