Review demonstrates efficient and selective reduction of organic functional groups using benign metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, highlighting viable non-toxic alternatives in green chemistry.
Recently, metal nanoparticles (NPs) showed great potential for the efficient and selective reduction of various functional groups under green conditions. This review covers recent advances on the reduction of useful functional groups using non‐toxic, low‐cost, and environmentally benign metal NPs and metal oxide NPs. The use of several inexpensive metals such as Cu, Zn, Fe, Ni, Caminoo, and Mn and their oxide NPs for the efficient and selective reduction of a variety of functional groups has been demonstrated. The merits and limitations of the procedures have also been discussed.
